Q1. TOEFL Writing Task 1 — Integrated Writing Reading Passage: Some universities are considering replacing printed textbooks with digital textbooks. Supporters of this change believe digital textbooks offer several advantages. First, digital textbooks are usually cheaper than printed books because they do not require printing, shipping, or physical storage. This could reduce the financial burden on students. Second, digital textbooks are easier to update. In subjects such as science, business, and technology, information changes quickly. A digital textbook can be revised more frequently than a printed book, so students may receive more current information. Finally, digital textbooks are more convenient. Students can store many books on one device instead of carrying several heavy printed books around campus. They can also search for specific terms quickly, highlight important sections, and add notes. Listening Script: Professor: The reading makes digital textbooks sound like an obvious improvement, but there are several problems with this argument. First, digital books are not always cheaper in practice. Some students need to buy tablets or laptops to use them effectively. Also, some digital textbooks expire after a semester, so students cannot resell them or keep them for future reference. Second, frequent updates may sound useful, but they can create confusion. If a professor designs a course around one version of a textbook and the publisher changes it during the semester, page numbers, examples, and assignments may no longer match. That can make studying more difficult, not easier. Third, digital convenience has a downside. Students using digital textbooks are often on devices connected to email, social media, and other distractions. A printed book may actually help some students focus better because it separates reading from entertainment and online interruptions. Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, explaining how they challenge the points made in the reading passage. Write your response in 20 minutes. Recommended length: 150–225 words.

Q2. TOEFL Writing Task 2 — Academic Discussion Professor: Today we are discussing whether universities should require students to complete community service before graduation. Some people believe this requirement helps students become more responsible citizens. Others think students should choose volunteer work freely rather than be required to do it. Student A: I support requiring community service. Many students are focused only on grades and careers, so service gives them a chance to understand real problems in society. It can also help them develop teamwork and communication skills. Student B: I disagree. Community service is valuable, but if it is required, students may treat it like another assignment instead of a meaningful experience. Universities should encourage service, but students should decide whether and how to participate. Question: Write a response for the online discussion. State your opinion and support it with reasons and examples. Write your response in 10 minutes. Recommended length: about 100–150 words.
